NukeWorker.com's Super Abbreviated Study Guide for the Nuclear Utilities Fundamentals (NUF) Radiation Protection (RP) Exam

RP Cram Notes 2nd Michael D Rennhack

I've taken the NUF twice before - once scoring an 84, once scoring an 86. I recently found myself coming back into the nuke business after 18 months away. That in itself is enough to make me have to take the test again many places! But I'd also expired, so I knew I had to get studying.

I pulled out my big book from WesTrain, and popped onto Nukeworker to check out the quiz. My first run through the quiz - which was a refresher more than anything else - netted me a score in the 60s. While I was there, though, I saw mention of the RP Cram Notes. Why not? thought I. $3 for something I can read on the Kindle app on my phone? Definitely worth a shot, and I would be no worse off.

That night, I read through the RP Cram Notes, and popped back onto the Nukeworker quiz. My next score was a lovely 76. Not quite high enough, but a definite improvement! I got wrapped up in studying for/taking all the other tests associated with a return to the Nuke world, and didn't pick up the RP Cram Notes again for several days... by that time, it was two days before my test! I spent one evening studying the RP Cram Notes, going through a hard-copy practice quiz I've had for years, and going through several quizzes on NukeWorker. The next day, I spent the morning practicing my formulas, until I knew I could almost definitely remember the equations and how to do them. Finally, the morning of my test came around. While I waited for my proctor, I again pulled out my phone, and used the RP Cram Notes to brush up on Half Value Thickness and Tenth Value Thickness.

Needless to say, I passed. Most exciting for me, though, was passing with a 98%! I've never scored that high on the NUF before!

I agree with the main description of the book, that this is meant to be used as a refresher, and not as a sole study guide. If you've never taken the test before, or if it's been a very long time, you should use this in conjunction with the full RP Fundamentals guide. There were several questions on the NUF I don't recall reading about in the RP Cram Notes.

The information was great, though it would be nice to see more. It would also be nice to see a little more structure - I'm not sure if it's just the Kindle-to-phone conversion, but I found that everything was quite literally crammed in. Chapters or defined sections (with page breaks) would've made it easier to navigate. There were also some minor typographical or transcription errors - again, this may be due to porting to the Kindle App for Android. It's one of the main reasons this should be used as a refresher or helper, and not as a full-fledged study guide... you need that bit of experience to know when what you're looking at is nearly but not QUITE correct!

Otherwise, use this in conjunction with the Nukeworker practice quiz, and you should do well... at least until they change the questions!

RP Cram Notes 2nd Michael D Rennhack Reviews

Perfect study guide
an excellent guide two utilize when preparing for the n.u.f. test. it was >20 years since aye last tested and had no problems with the test scoring over 95% first time.
Cramming has never been easier....
If you're already familiar with how to do the math this combined with the nukeworker practice test a few days before the test got me a 90 on the NUF. Very concise book, just everything you need to know. Highly recommended as it will save you a lot of time.
The guide is clear, easy read and covers the basic theories of commercial radiation protection. For a quick refresher its not bad, but as a study guide and general value it is a little lacking. The information is not presented in the same format as the questions on the exam, which is the best way to "cram" for it. The book is 30 pages long and at least 5 are the table of content, preface and library of congress info. Would expect there to be at least twice as many questions covered in more detail. A lot of the formatting on the reference equations is poor, there is a lack of sub/superscript and several times the Greek letters are replaced by a question mark symbol. A good book to read before going back to an outage after summer/winter break but for cramming I would recommend finding a sample test bank from previous tests and taking the quiz on nukeworker.com.
This was a good refresher prior to taking any of you exams for the radiation field of nuclear to enhance your knowledge
Of some things you don't use on a daily basis.
Great study guide!
