I loved the first two books Vengeance Born (A Novel of the Light Blade)and Alliance Forged (A Novel of the Light Blade), I absolutely loved them both. To fully appreciate this book, Allegiance Sworn, you should read the first two. The world building, the three races of human, demon, and the half-blood of the two, Na'Chi.

So the last book left us wondering what happened to Arek. The last we heard he suffered from a concussion and was being herded with others, captured, and taken away into slavery. So the story begins: Yes Arek is captured, and we find out first hand of his struggles, both physical and mental, in every situation. . . The uncertainty, the will to escape, to survive, to live true to his values, to consider his upbringing, to question just who he is and his knowledge of his world. . . Such a complex and wonderful characterization of Arek and I couldn't help but be captivated myself. He questions and is tested, his fierce determination and commitment, his strength to overcome -- All this and more made him the second to the Chosen, a strong position and so worthy of this warrior. As the story unfolds, he learns and grows, overcoming his hatred and vengeance, honing it, and realizing where his values are. Arek realizes his life has come to this point for a reason and life isn't always about long term because . . .

The demon Na'Reish are preparing for war. Arek and his new mistress, the leader of the Na'Reish Clan Kaal are targeted in this war, in more ways than one. They stand in the way, stand alone in this world, clinging to the old ways. Imhara Kaal is the Kaal Clan-leader and she is the one that influences and teaches Arek that life isn't always what he was taught to believe.

The romance is there, the wonderful depth of characters, my words just can't describe how I sunk into them. The demon Na'Reish are corrupt and the scenes are portrayed that way. The evil is there, well done, yet you know what their society is like: Humans are cattle, their humanity isn't respected, they are slaves to them, theirs to use and abuse and to kill. Realizing how corrupt the society is that Imhara lives in makes her role even more amazing.

Wonderful book and I'm sitting here still marveling over the depth to her characters. There are a few cameos from the past two books, a nice check to see how they're doing. Allegiance Sworn (A Novel of the Light Blade) is well written, great romance, well worth picking up to enjoy whether it's the first one you pick from this series or the last one written to date. This was a new author I picked up last year and I'm so glad I did. I recommend this series and am looking forward to more from Kylie Griffin. -- Dan's Wife

Excellent characters and descriptions. I loved reading the whole series and I am now waiting impatiently for the next book.
Great 3rd book in the series, can't wait for number 4.
This series is golden. Vengeance Born, Allegiance Forged, and now Alliance Sworn. The characters are well developed and the story pulls you in they are all very hard to put down.
This is another installment in the Light Blade series and I loved it this one is sensual and amazing as Arek and Imhara learn to trust themselves and come to terms with their revenge. So many things are happening and it was wonderful catching up with other characters the strength of these help make this story great I could hardly put it down WOW.
While the second book in this series felt almost like a filler or a chapter in the story, Arec's story is a return the main theme. Picking up on the final leg of his journey into Na Reish territory, what looks like an opportunity to escape puts Arek into the middle of a betrayal of the Kaal clan that has been years in the making. Once again Arek is forced to face and question the beliefs he has been raised on by his grandfather as startling discoveries both of the histories shared between the races and those he has befriended. Coming to terms with unresolved feelings regarding his half sister, Varian and his kin and his feelings for Imhara, the Na Reish leader of the Kaal Clan who faces her own challenges both personal and for the hopes and dreams of her clan. War is on the threshhold and time is of the essence if Imhara's plan to succeed.
I really like this series, its different and exciting. I believe this is the third one in the series and you should definately pick up the others before reading this one or you might be a little confused. While this one wasn't my favorite in the series, it was still good and nothing that I would chuck into the bin if I had bought the paperback addition. I will say that the male/female roles were a little reversed and it was a little off putting for me personally. Arek was a little like your slightly whiney woe is me victorian-ish maiden, and Imhara was the more understanding strong role. Not to be sexist, but come on... this IS a romance novel haha. I would still recommend this book to others though.
