Lightbringer K D Mcentire Books

K. D. McEntire has done an excellent job of weaving a heart wrenching tale of a young girl, Wendy, who instantly looses her innocence due to a horrible accident. Because of this accident her bond with her best friend is now iron clad and only he understands her and her mission, nay duty, in life. For Wendy is the Lightbringer.

Wendy shares a close bond with her best friend Eddy, he is the only one in the world who knows about her calling as the Lightbringer, and the only one who knows why she sneaks out at night. As Wendy battles to balance school, home and her calling, Eddy fights to get her to see his love. Wendy's family depends on her to hold down the fort whilst her parents are off doing their own things and Piotr, an ancient spirit, steps into the mix as Wendy's world starts to crumble.

I highly recommend that you not only read Lightbringer but you ensure that you have Reaper available to start when you have finished Lightbringer. I was not as ready and am now in a holding pattern.

Lightbringer K D Mcentire Books Reviews

I love fantasy books that pull you in and keep you interested. This one did not dissapoint at all!! I was actualy sad when I got to the end. I want more and can't wait for K.D. to write another!!
A very enjoyable read!
Long a fan of good young adult speculative fiction, and Lightbringer was no disappointment to me. The premise of the protagonist's interactions with the dead, and the dead's relationship to the living world, is intrigueing. The vernacular speech of the characters, intended to show them as from distinct places and times, was a little stiff at times, but as a debut novel I found it engaging. I expect that McEntire's work will smooth out as she continues to write, and I'm looking forward to what comes next.

Oh, and no spoilers, but 2/3s of the way through, I thought I knew where things were going. I didn't expect what I got. An excellent first novel!!
I am addicted to this book. I picked it and lost myself in the story. This book is great for all ages and for anyone looking for a great book to read.
This was an excellent read that stayed in my mind well after I finished, keeping me thinking about the characters and anxious to read more!! The beginning of the book was a bit slow; I was frustrated at first that I didn't immediately understand the setting and terms. But a few pages in, I gave up on worrying about understanding all the details, because I realized the author was feeding me the necessary information at just the right moments to make sense of it. As soon as I relaxed and let the book lead the way, I entered an exciting world of fantasy only barely-removed from life as we know it. The mythology of this universe is solid and enticing; it makes sense and gives just enough of a nod to other stories to make the reader feel as though they're in on the joke. On the other hand, part of the appeal is that the reader is learning some of the secrets of the Never along with Wendy, the main character. The mythos is complex enough to be intriguing, but not so convoluted that it lost me at any point after the five or ten pages.

Protagonist Wendy struck me as one of the most believable, relatable characters I've read in YA for a very long time. She's a strong heroine, but she is also definitely a teenager. Unlike some popular books, I didn't feel that I was just reading a character template that each person was intended to color in themselves; Wendy is detailed and consistent and very much felt real. Though I'm in my 30s, she made me remember some of the struggles of being a teenager as well as reflected the way we are ALL still searching for identity and meaning. Yet my fifteen-year-old daughter also related to Wendy equally well and is the kind of strong female character my daughter complains is missing in too many books! Wendy doesn't seem to need the constant rescuing from her male counterparts that is sometimes prevalent in romance novels.

The main villain is deliciously nasty. In fact, she made me squirm a bit, her dialogue was so unnerving. Yet her story wasn't immediately obvious, and the final conflict never felt like a foregone conclusion. Though I'd figured out bits and pieces of her identity (which made me feel oh-so-clever) I definitely didn't expect certain twists. Yet when they were revealed I thought, "Oh, DUH! Of course!" I never felt as I read that the ending was painfully apparent or that Wendy's victory over any particular bad guy was an absolute given; this isn't a fairy tale where a happy ending was guaranteed.

I think one of the strongest points of the book is that Wendy's relationships are very true-to-life. The tensions and joys she experiences with her friends and family sound like conversations that could really happen. I think part of being a teenager is realizing that parents, teachers, friends, politicians, etc all have lives of their own. Kids see those people in one context and can't easily imagine them having lives of their own. It seemed that Wendy's coming to grips with her family's lives outside her own was an excellent touch in making the book feel real. Too much description here would spoil some of the best parts of the book, but as the reader learns along with Wendy, we come to love and hate the characters intensely - sometimes simultaneously, just as our real parents, grandparents, etc can cause conflicted emotions.

Some of the ghostly characters of the story seem to have enough backstory to justify novels of their own. At the very least, I hope their individual lives get more attention down the road somewhere. I realize too much about them could have bogged this story down in sub-plot, but considering how readable KD McEntire's style is, I'd be happy to buy a book or two set in this 'verse with other main characters.
Lightbringer was wonderful. Once I picked it up I could not put it down. This is a great book for teen girls and women who love a story. Action, romance, mystery, and curiosity drive the book forward making you want to know about these characters and who they are and what makes them tick. After finishing it all I could think was how sad I was that the sequel wasn't out yet. It sounds cliche but if you like the Twilight series this book is even better and you will love it. The heroine is strong and intelligent and thinks like a real person with real emotions. The story mixes the reality of being a teen with a fantastical other world behind the scenes keeping the delicate balance between the two. I loved this book and cannot wait to read more of this saga!
I was lucky enough to receive all three of these books for my birthday. I ripped through them in two days and wished for more. Out of curiosity, I found her website and emailed the author to see if there was anything else going on with this series and she actually emailed me back! It took her a couple of days but I was still happy to get a reply!

This series is so neat! You pick it up thinking it's going to be just another YA and it turns out to be smart and funny and heartbreaking. If you have a teenager or tween in your life (or someone who just likes to read!) then I totally suggest these books for birthdays and holidays. I bought several more copies this week to give away to my nieces. I can't wait to find out what they think!
